I don't handle death well. I really don't. Not when it's someone I'm close to, not when it's a person I admire greatly. My depression comes in and I feel sad and there's a good portion of the time I just mope and cry.
That was my Saturday morning. Well. My Friday night and Saturday morning. And yes, this is a post on Chadwick Boseman. It very much is.
I am huge Marvel nerd and fan. I have seen all the movies. I have a least a box of so of specifically Marvel comics. I am that human that shows up at midnight premieres. As soon as a marvel movie comes out, my friends automatically come to me and say have you seen this.
I actually waited to see Black Panther though, to go watch the movie with my friends and family so that I could experience it with them. And I was so happy I did. I fell in love with the country of Wakanda and all of its beauty at first sight.
And Chadwick Boseman, King T'Challa, made it all real for me.
I had seen Black Panther on the Disney XD cartoons, but he was only ever a fleeting part. Watching Chadwick Boseman, first in "Captain America: Civil War," then officially in his own title movie, just made my life.
I didn't believe it. I stared at the CNN notification. Then I immediately went to Facebook to see if there were other confirming articles. I saw article after article reporting. I didn't words then, and I honestly still don't have words now.
I've had words for plenty of my favorite celebrities passings. I was able to talk about it. I was able to see it and watch the news when it came on. I was able to just live with it. But this feels different and it feels different a lot of different people and a lot of different communities. It's a difference felt even more harshly by those who looked up to hime most.
Chadwick Boseman showed us heroes from all manners of life and he did it his way. He refused to play into what other people wanted him to be, and allowed his characters to take on lives of their own. He created worlds and universes that his community had been left out of, and showed them that they can do anything they put their mind to.
So, thank you Chadwick Boseman. Thank you for creating a light in the world and we will try to spread that light for you how ever we can.
